How to Watch Mexican TV Outside of Mexico? In-Depth Tutorial

When you’re in your home country, one of the best benefits is being able to access local TV channels. While many of us don’t watch TV – including me – I still like to watch some shows and entertainment programs on some of my local channels.

Mexican TV channels like Azteca Uno, Azteca 7, ADN 40, A+, and many others are known for a great deal of content. Azteca Uno lets you watch shows like Master Chef while ADN 40 is home to many entertainment programs of high quality.

The trick is that these channels are inaccessible abroad, which makes people wonder how to watch Mexican TV outside of Mexico and enjoy their favorite shows regardless of their location. If you’re one of them, don’t worry, as it’s rather simple and requires no more than a few minutes of your time.

This article will explain how to do it in steps, making sure you can do it effortlessly. Now, let’s see how to watch Mexican TV live abroad and talk more about the subject matter.

Why Is Mexican TV Blocked Outside of Mexico?

I have many friends in the US trying to access some of the Mexican TV channels but they always end up not being able to because they’re blocked. Local TV channels in this country are geo-restricted, meaning that not a single user located abroad can access them.

That is the case with almost any local TV channel in other countries. If we watch US TV channels overseas like Peacock TV, ABC, NBC, and others, we’ll find out that they can be accessed exclusively in the United States. The same applies, for example, to BBC, which you can only watch in the UK.

These restrictions are applied because of licensing agreements that prevent these channels from broadcasting abroad. These agreements allow these channels to show their content only in their respective countries, and broadcasting outside of them would mean a violation of these agreements.

I’m located in Europe and whenever I try to watch Mexican TV outside of Mexico, I get an error message.

This is proof that you can’t access and watch Mexican TV channels live abroad. That is if you don’t apply the solution that I’ll talk about soon. For now, let me explain why this happens. Simply put, each time you visit a particular site, it detects your IP address.

Each IP is associated with a location, and if you don’t have a Mexican IP address in this case, your access to Mexican TV channels is restricted. The trick, however, is to alter your IP to this country by using a VPN, which I will show you in the next section.

How to Watch Mexican TV Outside of Mexico With a VPN?

A VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. This is a service that will change your IP to another country and allow you to bypass geo-restrictions. Once you change your IP, the site you visit will see this new IP address and associate it with another country where that address is based.

In doing so, it’s easy to bypass geo-restrictions and unblock not only foreign TV channels but also Netflix libraries, betting sites, and everything else. Keep in mind that there are other overarching benefits of a VPN, such as gaining online security through an encrypted connection and a no-logging policy.

As such, when using this service, you can expect a 100% private and anonymous online experience without ISP monitoring. The main problem is that not many providers offer fast servers in Mexico, so not many of them can be successfully used to watch Mexican TV abroad.

Thankfully, ExpressVPN does and it’s my provider of choice for this tutorial. Let’s see how to use it for this purpose in 3 short steps.

1. Get ExpressVPN and Install It

Obviously, you’ll need to get ExpressVPN first. Just to clarify things, we aren’t talking about a free VPN. This is a premium provider that you’ll have to pay for, but just know that not a single free provider offers servers in Mexico, so it’s impossible to perform this trick using one.

Actually, I recommend checking out my article about free vs paid VPNs to get more info about their large differences. For now, let me tell you about ExpressVPN’s 49% discount and 3 free months for the annual plan, which drops its price significantly.

Plus, a 30-day money-back guarantee for all plans is here, so if you’re dissatisfied with this VPN with servers in Mexico, you can get a refund. Or, if you’re on a vacation abroad, use ExpressVPN to watch Mexican TV overseas, and when you’re back, request a refund in the first 30 days.

Either way, use the red button to get this deal and follow the steps on ExpressVPN’s site to subscribe. Next, you’ll need to download and install its application to your device.

I’m using it on Windows but it looks exactly the same on iOS, macOS, and Android, so the steps are the same.

2. Connect to a Mexican VPN Server

Speaking of the steps, let’s see how to get a Mexican IP needed for this tutorial. Do you see three horizontal dots next to “USA – Washington DC”? If so, click on them, then click on All Locations, and choose “Americas.”

If you scroll down a bit, you’ll see Mexico. On Windows/Mac, double-click on it to connect to a server in this country, and on iOS/Android, tap once to establish a connection

You will see that ExpressVPN will become green, which tells you that it connected successfully.

3. Watch Mexican TV Live Outside of Mexico

And now, what will happen if I try to watch Mexican TV live outside of Mexico? Well, it will simply work. You will not have to suffer from any error message and you will be able to watch Mexican TV channels regardless of the country you are in.

When you’re done, don’t forget to disable the VPN protection to get back to “normal”.

Watching Mexican TV Abroad Using CyberGhost

If you think ExpressVPN is expensive or you simply don’t like it for any reason, feel free to try another VPN to watch Mexican TV outside of Mexico.

My recommendation for this scenario is CyberGhost. CyberGhost offers nearly 50 fast-speed servers in Mexico City.

As such, it’s a good solution to unblock Mexican TV channels abroad and access them anywhere. Keep in mind that this provider is cheaper than ExpressVPN but it isn’t better overall. It’s a bit slower, for example, and isn’t as great for bypassing geo-blocks and unblocking Netflix libraries.

That’s why, in my article about how to watch Netflix Japan outside of Japan, I recommended ExpressVPN, because CyberGhost didn’t work. Nevertheless, it still works for watching Mexican TV abroad and it functions pretty much the same as ExpressVPN.

You simply open the app, double-click on Mexico, and get an IP from this country. From there, you access the channels you want no matter your location. If you’re interested in this provider instead, I recommend checking out its special deal through the red button below.

CyberGhost is extremely affordable and its longest plans cost below $2.5 a month. Moreover, you get a 45-day money-back guarantee as well, so you can use it for 45 days and get a refund if you don’t need it anymore or you don’t like something about it.

Is Watching Mexican TV Live Abroad Legal?

Unblocking geo-restricted online content with a VPN is perfectly fine and no one is going to punish you for that. It is, therefore, legal to watch Mexican TV overseas by using ExpressVPN or CyberGhost. The only thing that isn’t “legal” is the fact that you’re going against the terms and conditions of these channels.

Some of them might forbid using IP-changing tools for accessing their content abroad, but so far, on Mexican TV channels, I haven’t found any similar clause. Besides, VPNs are mostly used for bypassing geo-restrictions and I can tell you millions of people do that daily.

No one ever got arrested for that because, as I said, it’s perfectly legal. It is, on the other hand, illegal to access websites that your government deems illegal. If betting is illegal in your country, you shouldn’t place bets online even if you’re doing it with the protection of a VPN!

Conclusion

You’ve learned today that watching Mexican TV live outside of Mexico isn’t so hard after all. What was once an annoying geo-restriction that prevented you from accessing your favorite content is now everything but.

With ExpressVPN and CyberGhost, you can access and watch channels like Azteca Uno, A+, ADN 40, Azteca 7, and many others even if you’re far away from Mexico. These providers can also unblock many other foreign TV channels, so it’s great for expanding the amount of content you can see online.

And with the security and privacy that they give you, you can forget about government surveillance, hackers, and annoying ISP throttling. Go ahead and test out this solution. I can guarantee you’ll be pretty satisfied with the results.
