VPN Unlimited is a premium service that aims to protect your privacy and give you a “new level of advanced security” while also being streaming-friendly. Moreover, the company claims that this service has been trusted by 20 million people worldwide since 2013, which is quite a bold statement.

With so many alleged users during the 10+ years, you’d think this provider beats every other service on the market. Yet, for some reason, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited isn’t very popular, as many people decide on ExpressVPN, CyberGhost, or even NordVPN as their daily driver.

In this KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review, I will demystify why this provider isn’t very popular by conducting in-depth, comprehensive, and thorough tests and analyses on it. We’ll see how great is its user experience, if it’s safe and secure, and check out the overall performance.

VPN Unlimited User Experience & Device Support

We all know that VPN services support a wide variety of devices and platforms. Well, not all of them, but better ones will surely offer apps even for less popular platforms and devices. While KeepSolid VPN Unlimited didn’t reinvent the wheel, it’s actually surprising how good its device compatibility is.

Aside from all desktop and mobile platforms, this VPN can be used on Kodi, for example, and there are apps for TVs, routers, and other relevant devices. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves in this review. First, we need to talk about its user experience and the number of simultaneous connections.

Unfortunately, KeepSolid isn’t impressive in this regard, as you get 5 simultaneous connections on one account. This is the same situation we’ve seen in ExpressVPN – something I’ve always criticized about the provider, especially since Surfshark offers no limits in this regard.

However, VPN Unlimited allows you to extend the number of simultaneous connections by paying more. Sure, you’ll spend additional funds on your subscription but you can increase the number endlessly, so you can protect dozens of devices at the same time if your finances allow for that.

Desktop and Mobile Apps

In this KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review, I think it’s vital to talk about its mobile and desktop apps.

Besides, most people use a VPN on their phones and computers, rather than routers, Smart TVs, and other devices and platforms.

The good news is that the provider supports Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android, so all of the most popular platforms are covered. Linux support includes systems like Debian, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint, so it’s not the best in the world. ExpressVPN offers better Linux support, for instance.

Nevertheless, its app looks quite nice and I’m using it on Windows with no problems. It feels modern, with a big world map in the middle and a large connection button in the bottom part. This world map is useless, though, and you can’t connect to the server using it, as you’d do with NordVPN.

Clicking on Optimal, you open the server list where the servers are sorted alphabetically. Up top, you can access streaming/torrenting servers and there’s a search bar if you don’t want to cycle through the server list to find the country you want.

By the way, there’s this Ping Test as well, which I found useful for finding the fastest servers. When accessing the Settings menu, you’ll be surprised at how simple and intuitive it is. The sub-menu called Settings houses all of the features in this app.

Here, you’ll find a kill switch, protocol selection, and other features that we’ll mention in this VPN Unlimited review.

Other than that, I like that you can access customer support within the app directly as well as redeem a code for extending your subscription without leaving the app.

In the screenshot above, you can see how its app looks on my iPhone. As you can see, it’s very similar, and although it lacks certain features, I had no issues getting used to it when switching from my PC to my iPhone. Overall, a pleasant experience – props to KeepSolid.

TV Apps

If you need an Apple TV VPN or you just want to use VPN Unlimited on anything that has the word “TV” in it, you’re lucky to be here. Surprisingly, the provider offers streaming apps for platforms like:

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is pretty easy to set up on your TV too. I mean, since you get native apps for most of the TV operating systems, you just visit the corresponding app store, download it, sign in, and use the Virtual Private Network hassle-free.

Apple TV isn’t supporting VPNs natively. However, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited has router support and it offers Smart DNS, which allows you to bypass geo-restrictions and unblock streaming platforms on your Apple TV without setting up a Virtual Private Network.

Gaming Apps

Gamers and those alike will be pleasantly surprised by the fact that this provider works on PlayStation, Xbox, and even Nintendo consoles. Of course, we’re not talking about native apps but rather workarounds in the form of a router VPN setup, Smart DNS, or sharing your connection through the PC.

Either way, in this VPN Unlimited test, I had zero issues utilizing this provider with my PlayStation 5.

It’s not the best-performing service, but hey, it can be set up to work with gaming consoles and that’s always welcome.

Router Support

As stated during this review, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited does support routers but also Synology NAS.

The company offers setup guides for both devices and I especially like how it did it for routers. You get the simplest possible setup here, which you can complete even if you’re a dummy.

That’s if your router supports a VPN connection natively, which might be the case, as the list of supported routers is big. KeepSolid VPN Unlimited works with routers like:

• Padavan, and many others…

For each of them, there are comprehensive setup guides, but the whole process is simple. You go to your account, generate router configurations, and enter these configurations into your router settings. After that, restart your router and the setup will be complete.

Unlike some Virtual Private Networks that limit router support to OpenVPN, KeepSolid lets you use protocols like IKEv1, IKEv2, and L2TP/IPsec. All in all, you’re highly unlikely to be disappointed with the implementation of this service on various devices.

Is VPN Unlimited Safe & Secure? All Security Features Examined!

Okay, so what about security? We know VPN Unlimited is easy to install, use, and set up on routers, but you’ll agree that security is the most important factor. Well, let’s analyze its security features and see if you can rely on it to keep your privacy.

AES-256 Encryption

We’ve already come to expect 256-bit encryption in premium providers like this one. KeepSolid met our expectations by offering the exact same level of encryption, which encrypts your connection and makes it untraceable by your Internet Service Provider and hackers.

This encryption is used in all of its protocols, so if you like to switch them often, you won’t have to sacrifice this important aspect of security. Some free VPNs for Windows and other platforms, however, tend to lower their encryption to 128-bit which I’m not a fan of.

Kill Switch

To back up this bank-grade encryption, VPN Unlimited offers a kill switch. A reliable one at that. The kill switch in this provider works flawlessly and blocks all traffic if you lose the connection. So far, to be honest, I had no connection issues with the provider.

Some of our testers experienced a few issues with particular servers but the kill switch took care of that and protected their identity by springing into action. It’s a shame that we don’t get the advanced kill switch we have with NordVPN, but this one works well, so no complaints there.

DNS Firewall

Another feature in this KeepSolid VPN review for 2024 is called DNS Firewall. What is it? Well, this feature is here for web filtering and for blocking malicious sites and domains. Once you activate it, the app opens a new browser window where you can configure the feature.

You’re then transferred to KeepSolid and you can block or unblock sites either by their content or go for particular sites. The types of sites you can block/allow include:

• Adult sites
• Torrent sites
• Games
• Fake News
• Suspicious Domains
• Malware
• Market & Shopping
• Drugs & Alcohol, and many more.

Additionally, you can make a custom list with the domains of your choice and apply custom rules. I find this feature great for parental control for people who share their computers with children. By using this feature, you can prevent your children from visiting “inappropriate” sites and platforms.

Stop DNS Leak

VPN Unlimited has an in-house DNS server that can be used by enabling this feature called “Stop DNS Leak”.

As its name implies, it will prevent DNS leaks by restricting DNS requests to its in-house servers. In a minute or so, in this review, we’ll see just how well it works.

Proprietary VPN Protocols

The final security feature I want to talk about in this analysis has to do with multiple features. Not sure what I mean? Take a look at the screenshot below and you’ll see that the provider offers a myriad of encryption protocols – perhaps the largest number I’ve seen.

There are three popular protocols such as OpenVPN, IKEv2, and WireGuard, where the latter is the best choice for overall privacy, stability, performance, and speeds. I’m glad it’s there. However, KeepSolid spices things up with three more protocols.

To be precise, it’s the same protocol but with different connection methods – UDP, TCP, and TLS. KeepSolid Wise is the name of this protocol and the provider developed it to bypass VPN blocks at your school, hotel, work, or anywhere else.

This protocol should also work in censored countries, so it’ll be interesting to see if the VPN will work in the UAE, China, and other censored regions. KeepSolid recommends using TLS for bypassing VPN blocks, and in case it doesn’t work, UDP and TCP connections are viable as well.

VPN Unlimited IP and DNS Leak Test: No IP/DNS Leaks Found

To finalize this KeepSolid VPN Unlimited analysis of security, I think it’s time to perform a few IP/DNS leak tests.

My usual practice is to connect to a server in the US and use it to test whichever Virtual Private Network is on the repertoire. Today, it’s VPN Unlimited.

Let’s start with the first website for leak testing called ipleak.net. In the screenshot below, it’s clear that the addresses you see are based in the United States. I’m located in Europe, and since my IP and DNS addresses aren’t here, it’s clear that no leaks are present.

Moving on, I used a site called browserleaks.com next:

Here, the provider showed the same great results too, as my IP/DNS addresses showed no signs of leaking. With all of the security features, protocols, and encryption, I expected these results – nothing less, nothing more.

Does It Have a No-Logging Policy?

Our recent review of Mullvad VPN showed that this is one of the best providers for user privacy.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited does offer amazing features as well, but to be 100% honest, privacy isn’t its strongest characteristic.

Let’s start with the jurisdiction. KeepSolid is a company from New York, so we’re looking at a US-based company. The US is a founding member of the 5 Eyes alliance, and if you’ve heard about it, you most likely follow Edward Snowden who discovered a few alarming things about these countries.

For example, they’re known for mass surveillance, data collection, and information sharing with other countries in the 5 Eyes, such as the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. This is not great news for privacy, as KeepSolid might be obligated to store logs and hand them to the authorities per request.

Is this paranoia or are there any real-world cases of this? Well, just do a quick search online and you’ll see that IPVanish and HideMyAss (UK & US providers) did cooperate with the FBI and handed out connection logs at least once.

Which Information Isn’t Stored?

Not all Virtual Private Networks from the US should be immediately discarded and Private Internet Access is a great example with its zero-logging practices.

In a similar fashion, VPN Unlimited won’t save logs of your online activities, downloads, metadata, server usage, or anything similar.

In addition, KeepSolid claims not to store logs of your IP address, which is very important for ensuring a high level of privacy. It, however, knows your IP during the VPN session, after which, it’s deleted from its servers.

Finally, the provider doesn’t require your full name for a VPN subscription. Instead, it uses only your email. This makes it impossible to connect your subscription to your real name, and thus, reduces the chances of the company tracking your identity.

Which Information Is Stored?

Moving on to another part of the privacy policy, we can already see some alarming signs. Namely, there are several categories of information that the company stores, with some benign and some more alarming, as said.

User information includes your email address which can also come from social media sites like Facebook and Google. Yes, you can register directly through these platforms, which, I think, isn’t something you can call private or anonymous.

Either way, device information is more alarming. A 100% no-log VPN shouldn’t store information like your device ID, OS version, installed updated, app usage, time zone, and browser type. Yet, KeepSolid VPN does.

In the privacy policy, we can see that the company mentions your IP address and geographic location as something that’s stored to provide the fastest server. It is, allegedly, kept only for the duration of the VPN session and deleted afterward.

The fact that this data is deleted isn’t very comforting because, during your VPN session, all of this collected information can be linked to you. And if the provider gets compromised, for example, hackers can steal your IP address and find out your true location.

Storing this many bits of info, even though this info is deleted after your session, doesn’t make a VPN what we call a “no-log service”. KeepSolid definitely overplayed its card here as it stores more than the bare minimum to keep the service afloat.

With no third-party audits, it’s also not fully trustworthy, making it easy to NOT recommend in favor of safer providers like ExpressVPN, CyberGhost, and NordVPN.

VPN Unlimited for Streaming: Popular Streaming Platforms TESTED

At the start of my KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review, I mentioned that this provider comes with dedicated streaming servers.

We can find streaming servers with many services, such as CyberGhost (check my CyberGhost test), in which case, they’re excellent.

Some providers offer streaming servers that barely function and they’re there just as a placeholder. Well, KeepSolid VPN follows in the footsteps of superior VPNs and its streaming servers aren’t half bad! Once you open the server list and click on Streaming, you’ll see lots of servers.

There are dedicated servers for a myriad of streaming services in countries like the UK, and the US, and a “general” streaming location. The great news is that these servers work and while testing them, I was able to unblock every streaming platform that the provider claimed to work.

Even TV channels from the aforementioned countries work flawlessly, and despite my European jurisdiction, I was able to access a whole lot of content outside of my continent. The streaming performance is somewhat decent as well and the 4K footage isn’t as stuttery as I expected.

On a few occasions only, VPN Unlimited was detected and I received a few error messages but everything went back to normal after using a different server location.

All in all, VPN Unlimited offers stellar streaming performance, both in the quality and the ability to unblock geo-restricted services.

Speed Tests: Here’s How Fast KeepSolid VPN Unlimited Really Is

We all want a fast Virtual Private Network that won’t destroy our internet speed and connection quality.

While the majority of providers will reduce your internet speed, services like ExpressVPN and CyberGhost will do a great job of keeping the performance up to par.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers a fair share of servers, security protocols, and server locations, which promises somewhat decent performance.

However, in this KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review, we’ll see how fast this provider is by testing a variety of server locations.

In the screenshot above, you can see my native internet speeds when I’m not using any protection. With these results in place, I went ahead and tested the provider for 3 days in a row, 3 times a day while using 4 server locations in the US, the UK, Australia, and Japan.

It’s also important to mention that I didn’t tinker around with protocols. Instead, I set this setting to “Optimal” which ensures that the VPN chooses the protocol automatically to achieve the best performance.

And now, here are the best-case scenario speed test results:

We can see that KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers relatively good performance. Sure, the speed reduction is there but when I used the UK server, my ping and download/upload speeds were all but bad. Even the US server showed half-decent results by keeping my ping under 150 ms.

Australian and Japanese servers showed a bit worse results but definitely not worse than some of the free VPNs I tested.

Overall, VPN Unlimited has acceptable performance as long as you’re connected to nearby servers. Distant servers will degrade the performance but that’s expected.

Is KeepSolid VPN Unlimited Good for Gaming?

During my KeepSolid VPN Unlimited test for 2024, I managed to use this provider on gaming consoles.

I set it up on my router and easily made it work with my PlayStation 5. Gaming on this console with this provider was a joy when using European servers, which is where I’m located.

However, switching to Asian servers, in Japan, to be precise, I noticed a big increase in ping which made Call of Duty Warzone less playable. Still, compared to a provider like Avira Phantom VPN, for example, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited still held its ground and provided an experience I could go through. Now, if you want to enjoy an optimal experience, opt for the best VPN for Warzone instead.

The same could be said about gaming on my Windows PC and my iPhone. The provider is capable of gaming with low ping as long as you’re not using servers overseas. I noticed that cloud gaming was a bit sluggish as I tested both Xbox Cloud Gaming and PlayStation Now.

The first service showed a massive lag input while PlayStation Now was more playable, alas, with a noticeable lag input as well. ExpressVPN is a tad faster for gaming especially due to its 10 Gbps servers in 160 worldwide locations, so I’d go for it instead to get the most out of my multiplayer games.

Can I Use VPN Unlimited for Torrenting?

While a provider like NordVPN perfectly works with uTorrent and torrenting in general, I encountered some issues with KeepSolid VPN Unlimited in this regard. Namely, I know that the provider offers dedicated torrenting servers – so does NordVPN, CyberGhost, and even ProtonVPN.

However, these three VPNs don’t restrict P2P activities only to these servers. Instead, you can connect to a “normal” server and still be able to download torrents. Albeit, P2P-optimized servers will give you better performance for this activity.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is much different. I intentionally connected to a server in Austria, which isn’t a P2P-optimized location. Then, I went ahead, visited 1337x, and added a torrent magnet link to my qBitTorrent client. The results are below.

As you can see, the download simply wouldn’t start no matter how long I waited. It’s obvious that VPN Unlimited blocks P2P traffic on all servers except for torrenting servers. And the worst thing about them is that they’re based in just three countries:

• Canada
• France
• Romania

This makes it very difficult to find a nearby server to get the best performance if you live in Asia, Africa, or even the United States. Thankfully, I live in Europe so the server in Romania was my best bet. As soon as I switched to it, boom – everything worked.

To conclude, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is P2P-friendly but only on these three servers. If you live in Japan, for example, the closest server to you is most likely the one in Canada. Yet, it’s also very far if you think about it, so you’ll get a noticeable speed reduction when torrenting.

I suggest using ExpressVPN for torrenting instead. It has servers in 105 countries and ALL servers are optimized for torrenting, so you can find the one close to you and easily get awesome performance.

Is It Working in China & Other Censored Countries?

In my KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review, I briefly touched on these proprietary KeepSolid Wise protocols. I also said they’re here to bypass Virtual Private Network blocks, offering three variants – UDP, TCP, and TLS, which is the one recommended by the company.

I was very excited to test VPN Unlimited in China, the UAE, and a few other countries, so I contacted my acquaintances and shared my subscription with them. Interestingly, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited worked in China when using this Wise TLS protocol, just as promised.

Keep in mind that my acquaintance in this country reported severely slower speeds, though, so streaming and general browsing were a bit “jittery.” UDP and TCP variants of these protocols got mixed results, as TCP worked 50% of the time, while UDP didn’t work at all.

Besides, UDP isn’t very efficient at bypassing firewall restrictions, so it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

In the same fashion, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited worked in the UAE with no special tweaks and our Turkish writers reported that the service works in this country as well.

Servers and Server Locations

Let’s talk about the provider’s servers and server locations.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers plenty of servers to choose from, especially if we factor in its torrenting and streaming servers. At the moment of writing this review, KeepSolid packs 3,000 servers in 80+ locations on the planet.

Notice that I said locations because the provider has 56 countries to choose from. Still, I think all of these numbers aren’t all that bad considering that, for example, NordVPN offers servers in 60 or so countries. ExpressVPN and CyberGhost bump up this number to 100+.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited has decent server distribution and you’ll find servers in all of the popular countries. However, I was surprised to see the servers in Lybia, Vietnam, the UAE, Nigeria, and even the Isle of Man, for those needing an IP from this country.

The provider focuses mostly on servers in the US, the UK, Canada, and Europe, where we get multiple server locations. These very servers are optimized for torrenting and streaming too, and I’m a bit sorry that no Asian or African servers are on the P2P/streaming server list.

But I’ll be honest and say that KeepSolid VPN’s server list isn’t unimpressive. Just compare it to providers like Norton Secure VPN, Malwarebytes Privacy VPN, and others, and you’ll see that this provider is significantly larger.

Heck, it’s even bigger than IPVanish and Hide.me if we’re being honest, and these two services are better than this one by a long shot.

Customer Support: How to Contact KeepSolid for Help?

Judging by its large server fleet and other serious security features, you’d think this provider’s customer support is par excellence.

Well, I’m sad to report that this isn’t the case, especially with no 24/7 live chat support, which is mandatory if you’re trying to be a good premium VPN provider.

Regardless, KeepSolid has only email support, which you can contact by sending an email directly or using a “live chat widget” which is more “email widget” in reality. I wanted to see if the provider offered live chat at first, so I typed in my message and got this result.

They thanked me for reaching out and promised to get back to me soon – fair enough. However, to be frank, a member of the support team contacted me through email in about 20 minutes, which isn’t bad for this type of support.

Chatting via email is annoying and isn’t as convenient as having a conversation through a chat window. Thankfully, KeepSolid has a lot of how-to guides, FAQs, and even a blog (rarely updated), so you can get the required help without going for direct contact.

Could customer support be much better? Yes. Is it at least half-decent? Yes. But in my ExpressVPN vs Surfshark duel, I talked about how great the customer support teams of these providers are, so make sure you check that duel out to find out more.

This KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review is near its end, so as always, it’s a good time to talk about the pricing of this provider.

Let’s see how much this service costs and if there are any good (better) alternatives with similar prices.

We can see that there are 2 subscription plans for VPN Unlimited, and while the annual plan is, more or less expensive, the Lifetime plan drops the price to $199 – a one-time payment. This means you’ll pay $199 now and get to use the VPN for as long as it exists.

No doubt, we’re talking about an affordable provider but only if you’re planning to get the Lifetime plan. The annual plan, on the other hand, isn’t very expensive, and at a lower price than this, you can get NordVPN and CyberGhost instead – two much better VPNs.

On top of these plans, the provider offers additions like a personal server, personal static IP, and additional device slots, all paid additionally. I really like these additions, to be honest, but their prices vary depending on many parameters, such as server location, for instance.

For example, a personal static IP costs $14.99 a month on top of your subscription. On the other hand, getting 10 simultaneous connections costs $5.99 a month, which is somewhat acceptable.

Available Payment Methods

When it comes to available payment methods, KeepSolid doesn’t stick to just credit/debit cards and PayPal. Instead, it spices things up by including Bitpay (crypto) and a few other methods to make it easier for you to get a subscription.

Note that the availability of these methods may also depend on your location, so in some countries, you can be limited to only a few or one of them.

How to Get a Refund from KeepSolid VPN Unlimited

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for all plans. There are no special conditions attached to it, which means it’s easy to get refunded simply by contacting the support team through email and requesting a refund.

KeepSolid isn’t annoying like some of them and will give you a refund after one or two questions. They won’t beg you to stay by offering ridiculous deals, discounts, and whatnot. That’s something I always appreciate, especially when I need to write a review and quickly get a discount afterward.

What We Don’t Like About KeepSolid VPN Unlimited?

In the grand scheme of things, VPN Unlimited isn’t a bad service. It has lots of servers and locations so it’s a solid VPN for traveling to other countries, especially since it can bypass censorship in China and other locations.

Things we don’t like about it include its lack of privacy and the fact that KeepSolid stores more logs than is required for the service to operate. Plus, VPN Unlimited has no special third-party audits and it’s based in the United States (5 Eyes), which makes the whole provider far less trustworthy.

Another thing we dislike is its limited torrenting capability. With only 3 P2P-optimized locations in Europe and Canada, finding a fast server for torrenting in Asia, Australia, or the US will be impossible. Customer support of KeepSolid VPN Unlimited isn’t the best either.

It doesn’t have 24/7 live chat support and it’s not as quick to respond as ExpressVPN or CyberGhost.

Finally, we don’t like its expensive add-ons such as a personal static IP, which isn’t worth the price considering that some providers offer dedicated IP addresses that are more affordable.

How Do Other People Rate KeepSolid VPN Unlimited?

Before concluding this VPN Unlimited test and review for 2024, let’s see how other people rate this provider online. On Trustpilot, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited has 4.3 stars.

Users on this site are generally satisfied with what it has to offer but minor complaints about customer support, connection issues, and speeds are present.

Apple Store users gave it an even higher, 4.6-star rating. People are generally praising this provider for its cheap prices, security, and stable connections. Interestingly, complaints are pretty much the same as on Trustpilot and they have to do with occasional stability issues and slow speeds.

Android users on Google Play went with a 4.3-star rating on average, praising its support team and overall reliability. Those who complain usually talk about the provider frequently disconnecting, losing internet connection, and inconsistent performance.

Conclusion: Good Overall, With One BIG Flaw

So, having in mind everything we said in this VPN Unlimited review for 2024, we can see that this provider is a mixed bag, but with more good things than you’d expect. Generally speaking, VPN Unlimited isn’t bad and it’s far from the likes of Opera VPN, Hola, Betternet, and others.

On top of that, VPN Unlimited, despite having good reviews online, also has an unbelievably high number of mixed reviews disguised as 5-star reviews. This leads to more suspicions and proves that, despite its wide array of features, the service isn’t as great as it presents itself to be.
