Choosing between Semrush or Ubersuggest isn’t as simple as you think. Semrush is the most capable SEO tool, offering an impressive set of tools. However, compared to some options, it might come as a bit more expensive. But what about Ubersuggest? Well, the company had a very modest history of being a straightforward Google search suggestions extraction tool. In 2016, Neil Patel, a famous entrepreneur, acquired Ubersuggest to display its craftsmanship and improve this service.
Nowadays, many compare Ubersuggest to Semrush, SE Ranking, Ahrefs, and Moz. This service packs tons of interesting SEO functions at a relatively affordable price. Semrush is a household name at this point and many assume it’s a better option.
Yes, in short, it is. However, not everyone is looking for a flagship product. Can you, in this case, choose Ubersuggest and still be satisfied? We’ll answer this question in our Semrush vs Ubersuggest comparison. Read on and find out which option is best for you.
Semrush vs Ubersuggest: Our Quick Conclusion
For those in a hurry, we should present a quick conclusion to our Ubersuggest vs Semrush analysis. Simply put, Semrush won today’s battle but this doesn’t mean we should discard Ubersuggest. Below are the advantages of both SEO tools:
Semrush is better for:
- Backlink audits
- Discovering search intent
- Rank tracking
- Link building
- Ease of use and crawling speed
- Free SEO tools
- More keyword suggestions
Ubersuggest is better for:
- AI writing and content generation
- Cheaper subscription plans
- Overall simplicity
Semrush vs Ubersuggest Features Comparison
Starting this Ubersuggest vs Semrush duel, we should immediately go through all of the features of each service. For added convenience, we’ll analyze the most important aspects and compare them side by side. However, we’ll also cover other features we tested along the way.
Domain Research (Semrush Wins)
When it comes to domain research, Semrush has an advantage. When you register for it and set it up, the first option you will likely use is Domain Overview. Here, you will see typical metrics like the authority score, organic traffic, backlinks, and traffic distribution.
In Ubersuggest, the initial dashboard doesn’t show anything similar. Once you add the project, which is the website, you’ll discover estimated organic traffic, keyword rankings, on-page SEO score, and backlinks. The Authority Score, isn’t there, for instance.
Compared to Semrush, Ubersuggest is a bit more complicated when it comes to getting more specific data. For example, in the Domain Overview in Semrush, you’ll see your SERP features and organic keywords. Ubersuggest doesn’t display these.
However, you will find other relevant metrics in a few sub-menus scattered across the left-hand side menu. We’ll address its interface later in the Semrush vs Ubersuggest duel.
Traffic Analytics
Both services have a few traffic analytics features we’d like to discuss. Ubersuggest has the Traffic Estimation menu where you can analyze your domain. Here, you’ll discover organic monthly traffic, SEO keyword rankings, and top SEO pages in specific countries.
We like that the service allows you to check all SEO keywords your website ranks for, along with their volume, position, and estimated visits. Interestingly, in this section, Ubersuggest will display the authority score.
As said, you have to dig deeper to find some info here.
Regardless, the Traffic Overview menu displays organic traffic while putting paid traffic on the back burner. In Semrush, Traffic Analytics features are more ubiquitous. You can see the number of unique visitors, purchase conversions, and pages/visits, and apply the device filter.
This way, you can analyze your mobile and desktop traffic separately. Moreover, Semrush allows for more in-depth PPC analysis thanks to Advertising Research. By using this feature, you can discover new ad opportunities and find out more about your paid traffic.
In terms of traffic estimations, both are accurate for larger domains. Smaller domains with less than 5,000 monthly visits will provide less accurate results, as expected. Overall, both tools are great for traffic analysis, with Semrush offering more info in general.
Authority Score
One thing to note is that Semrush and Ubersuggest calculate your authority score differently. Semrush uses factors like link power, organic traffic, and spam factors. In other words, you need to have quality backlinks, lots of organic traffic, and a lack of manipulative and spam-based factors.
What about Ubersuggest? Well, the service got a little help from Moz, using its ranking system to calculate the score. This means the score is based on the prediction of how likely the website is to rank in SERPs. Of course, it also includes several metrics.
They include linking root domains and a total number of links. We think Ubersuggest is slightly less accurate, often infatuating the authority score of our website. At the time of writing, Semrush displayed 76, while Ubersuggest estimated it at 92.
Our result was more in line with Ahrefs. As many of you know, Ahrefs is often used as a benchmark for domain authority and keyword difficulty. But because it’s very expensive, Ubersuggest might be a worthy alternative to Ahrefs.
Keyword Research (Semrush Wins)
Keyword research is pretty important for building a robust SEO strategy and ranking higher in SERPs. Luckily, you’ll find both tools satisfying in this regard, with Semrush’s advantage in many scenarios. To clarify, both services provide you with basic keyword research.
Type in the keyword and you’ll get information related to:
- Search volume
- Keyword difficulty
- CPC, and so on…
In both cases, you’ll get more than a few keyword ideas, with their trend, volume, difficulty, and CPC. Ubersuggest looks amazing for analyzing keywords, with every bit of information clearly outlined. You even get new content ideas that you can export to CSV and have them ready for writing new content.
Semrush comes up not only with keyword ideas but also questions and keyword clusters that you can access right away. Furthermore, the Keyword Overview menu sports the SERP analysis section, along with the keyword ad history and ad copies.
Keyword Ideas
In our Ubersuggest vs Semrush duel, our tests showed that both are capable of delivering high-quality keyword ideas. Semrush relies on its Keyword Magic Tool where you can discover THOUSANDS of new keywords and questions.
You can also get more info about trends, difficulty, CPC, and search intent. The latter is very important for discovering the meaning behind the users’ search. Search intent can be commercial, navigational, informative, and transactional.
With Ubersuggest, you won’t find this information, which is a shame. Semrush also allows you to filter the keyword suggestions and find keywords with more words in them that are easier to rank for at times. These are also usually transactional, which can bring more conversions.
Ubersuggest offers this Keyword Ideas option where you can apply the location filter and find related keywords, questions, prepositions, and comparisons. Each keyword comes with the CPC info, along with the option to export the entire list to CSV.
Additionally, Ubersuggest lets you generate content with AI for the given keyword but we’ll discuss that later. It, however, lacks the language filter from Semrush, where you can choose the language of the keyword results if you own a non-English or foreign site.
In our test, Semrush came up with a tad more keyword ideas overall but that’s because its keyword database is larger. Let’s be honest, though. Ubersuggest is very powerful as well, with excellent keyword ideas and suggestions that you can implement right away.
Keyword Clustering
Keyword clustering is handy when you want to group more than a few keywords to cover a specific topic and gain higher authority over it. Ubersuggest doesn’t offer a classic cluster system. Instead, it allows you to visualize the keywords.
It’s like a mind map from Semrush, where you can explore different keyword variants and questions. You can switch from a mind map to a raw data display where you’ll get these mini-clusters of keywords and their difficulty, volume, and CPC parameters.
Semrush offers the same mind map but with keyword clusters and better visualization. Open the Keyword Manager, enter a few seed keywords, and get ready-made clusters to create new content. like Ubersuggest, you can use AI to generate new content.
For added convenience, Semrush includes this SEO Content Template option to discover LSI keywords with which you can enrich your pages. It also explains the number of words you should aim for and which backlinks you should acquire.
Ubersuggest strikes back with the Content Ideas tool, where you’ll see the highest-ranking pages and their content based on the provided keyword. The tool will display the ranking keywords for each page with the number of backlinks and their origin.
Keyword Gap
The keyword gap tool is offered in Ubersuggest and Semrush. Ubersuggest calls it “Similar Websites” and lets you discover the keywords that your competitors rank for but you don’t. It’ll automatically find similar sites and let us say, it’s extremely accurate.
Then, it’ll show you their common keywords, estimated traffic, and backlinks. More importantly, there will be the keyword gap metric where you can see ALL keywords that your rivals rank for and your site doesn’t.
In this tool, you’ll also discover the organic traffic from a few selected rivals and see how you stack against them. Semrush lets you individually add your competitors but only up to 4 of them. Ubersuggest can track 15, making it advantageous.
Regardless, once you add all 4 websites, it’ll display the keyword overlap graph where you’ll see the keywords all of you are ranking for. However, it’ll also come up with the top opportunities in the form of keywords that you can rank for as well!
Scrolling down, you can find a table that compares you and your competitors regarding different types of keywords. For example, you can see shared, missing, and weak keywords on your website. Then, there’s the option to find unique KWs that you don’t have.
Semrush also lets you compare specific URLs and not only root domains. This way, you can compare your page with up to four more that cover the same topic to gain leverage over the competition. Ubersuggest can compare more rivals, while Semrush offers more information.
Rank Tracking
In a recent guide, we discussed some of the best rank trackers in 2024. There, we explained how great Semrush is and we still stand by it. Ubersuggest and Semrush will track your ranking for selected keywords, with daily updates to keep you informed.
Ubersuggest is pretty intuitive and easy to set up. Provide a few keywords, choose the country, and start tracking. You’ll see your average position, search result rankings, and information about which keywords moved up or down the ranking pole.
Anything else? Nope – just the device filter to switch between mobile and desktop metrics. Semrush is on another level. First, you’ll see your visibility and average position but if you scroll down, you’ll find your top keywords with positive and negative impact on the ranking.
SERP features and tags are also there and Semrush can show you ranking distribution across the countries. We also want to mention its cannibalization reports. They allow you to see if two or more pages are ranking for the same keyword, ruining each other’s rankings.
Both tools will notify you of rank changes and you can disable these alerts if you don’t want to be disturbed. While Ubersuggest’s rank tracking is accurate, we can’t help but want a bit more out of it apart from exporting features that not many people care about.
Link Building/Backlink Analysis (Semrush Wins)
For proper backlink analysis and establishing a backlink profile, which option should you choose – Semrush or Ubersuggest? We’ll sound like a broken record but you should pick Semrush. Simply put, it’s more capable.
Ubersuggest includes the overview tab where you can see your backlinks, referring domains, and domain authority. Moreover, you’ll find your anchor texts and be able to see ALL backlinks with the page authority of the site the backlink is from.
Ubersuggest also lets you filter the links to follow or nofollow, gaining more information about the backlink profile. You can do the same in Semrush. However, Semrush’s backlink database is larger, so it can discover more backlinks and provide accurate data.
Analyzing our domain, we found 10.7M backlinks on Ubersuggest, while Semrush displaced 15.7M – quite a difference. In Semrush, we love the option to see the categories of referring domains, top anchors, and backlink types – ours were mostly textual.
Backlink Gap
Semrush and Ubersuggest let you easily discover backlink opportunities. In Semrush, you’ll be using the Backlink Gap function to find the websites that link to your competitors but not your site. Then, using the Link Building tool, you can contact them and request a backlink.
This is perhaps our favorite tool in this Semrush vs Ubersuggest duel. It works wonderfully and offers a full CRM-like interface for easier access. Best of all, you can contact site owners directly through email and request a backlink or guest post.
Ubersuggest’s Backlink Opportunity feature lets you do the same. You can compare multiple sites and find lots of backlink opportunities with high domain authority. Ubersuggest lets you see the exact page where the competitors are mentioned but that’s all.
There’s no option to reach out to that referring domain and request a backlink. For this reason, finding backlink opportunities and making them “happen” is much simpler in Semrush.
Backlink Audit
Before discussing site auditing, let us quickly go over backlink audits that Ubersuggest, again, isn’t offering. Semrush is, and you’ll find this feature handy for improving and diversifying your backlink profile. After all, it’s paramount for ranking higher.
This tool functions by obtaining your domain address and analyzing all backlinks. The larger the domain, the more it takes for the analysis to complete. After that, you’re assigned a toxicity score based on how toxic and low-quality your backlinks are.
Another point for Semrush is the Disavow function. You can use it to tell Google to ignore specific backlinks. The Backlink Audit tool can be connected to GSC, which allows you to audit your backlink profile even more effectively.
Thanks to Semrush’s large backlink database, it will crawl your site and discover all your backlinks, putting them in toxic, potentially toxic, and non-toxic categories for further notice.
Site Auditing (Draw)
Whether you choose Semrush or Ubersuggest, you’ll be able to crawl your site and perform an exquisite SEO audit.
Ubersuggest
When it comes to simplicity, we prefer Ubersuggest. Its Site Audit function gives you an on-page SEO score, with the top issues displayed right there. You can view each issue in detail and get more information on how to fix the problem.
Ubersuggest will show a variety of problems, such as low word count duplicate title tags, long loading times, too long URLs, and many more. We like that it’ll display crawling issues and report to you on broken, blocked, and redirected pages.
In addition to that, Ubersuggest’s SEO audit analyzes your site performance, offering metrics like load time, interactivity, and visual stability – similar to Core Web Vitals. You can switch between desktop and mobile versions of your site for more information.
Semrush
Semrush’s Site Audit tool is extremely simple too but not simpler than Ubersuggest. Now, this comes down to one thing – it offers more information. Semrush will assign you a site health score that can go from 0 to 100% – in an ideal scenario.
You’ll see errors, warnings, and notices, with the top, most urgent issues highlighted in red. Like its rival, Semrush will display each issue and give you advice on how to fix it. You’ll see factors like crawlability, HTTPS, site performance, and internal linking.
We like the inclusion of Core Web Vitals. Because of this, you don’t have to use GSC to check your site’s overall performance. Semrush is slightly faster than Ubersuggest, taking a bit less time to analyze our website in our Ubersuggest vs Semrush analysis.
However, the overall experience is pretty good on both platforms. Ubersuggest is simpler but very effective, with Semrush offering a tad more information about crawlability, internal linking, and markup, which you won’t find in Ubersuggest.
Content Marketing (Ubersuggest Wins)
What about content marketing? These features are often handy for improving your content and adding a layer of optimization needed to rank higher. Moz lacks these but SE Ranking offers plenty of those features for a cheap price.
Let us analyze Semrush and Ubersuggest to see their offerings.
Semrush
One of the appeals of Semrush lies in its content marketing functions. This SEO tool comes with the Topic Research function. It helps you find new content ideas by entering your domain address. Most of them are usable, while only a few are non-sensical.
The good thing is that each topic is followed by a couple of keywords and questions with topic efficiency and difficulty scores. Its SEO Writing Assistant is also worth pointing out. It’s perfect for not only creating new content but analyzing the existing content as well.
Semrush will score the text based on readability, SEO, originality, and voice tone. It’ll also recommend some keywords that you can add to improve the SEO of your website. A paid addition is this ContentShake AI that you can use to find additional content ideas at $60 a month.
This AI tool also writes new articles for you, which can be used in content generation to speed up the process. Semrush beats many of its rivals with the content marketing suite, especially with the SEO Content Template option we discussed earlier in this duel.
Alas, the most valuable AI writing additions are paid additionally and purchasable through the App Center which we’ll discuss later. Ubersuggest is ahead in AI writing and you’ll see why in the next section where we analyze its content market functions.
Ubersuggest
On this side, you won’t find many content marketing features. However, so far, we discussed that Ubersuggest is keen on offering a few similar functions. We like its SEO Opportunities tool, which allows you to optimize certain pages and create new content.
For instance, the tool found a few pages on our site that could rank higher. It gave us a keyword to optimize our page for, explaining why the keyword is suitable. On a few occasions, Ubersuggest came up with a few ideas for new content on our site.
Better yet, these ideas made sense and were easy to write and rank for. Ubersuggest includes Labs features as well. One of them is the Keyword Generator where you enter your domain and the country you’re aiming to rank higher in.
After you provide the competitor domain, you’ll be given a heap of keywords that you can implement. Earlier, we mentioned the option to use its AI Writer. The cheapest plan allows for 10,000 AI-generated words and works surprisingly well.
You can select the level of quality, language, and keywords you want to use. Next, Ubersuggest will generate a few page titles. Pick one and then, a few intro paragraphs will be created. Once you choose the option, Ubersuggest will create headings.
From here, you’ll craft an entire article based on the keyword, with very little corrections on your side. It’s an AI and writing quality is relative but at least, the 10,000-word limit is pretty generous for the price, and content generation is quick.
Other Features (Semrush Wins)
So far in this Semrush vs Ubersuggest duel, we went through all of the latter’s features. However, we still haven’t discussed Semrush’s App Center. It has over 35 apps that you can use for free or buy – depending on the app.
It’s good to know these apps are ubiquitous and diverse, ranging from advertising and SEO to social media and competitor analysis. They’re extremely handy but can be expensive if you’re opting for flagship-level products.
Bear in mind they’re seamlessly integrated into Semrush and you don’t have to be an expert to use them. Now, Semrush offers even more stuff. We like its Social Media tool, which lets you track your social media activity, schedule posts, and improve your online presence.
There’s a myriad of local SEO functions as well, plus, the Trends addition provides insight into the current market to help you develop new strategies. Its Advertising tools also include PLA research, PPC keyword tool, and ad management.
All of this makes Semrush a full-on digital marketing platform that goes beyond your standard SEO tool. Ubersuggest provides very little in this regard. In fact, it provides nothing, which is why Semrush wins this round effortlessly.
Ubersuggest vs Semrush: Ease of Use (Semrush Wins)
When discussing ease of use, we think Semrush and SE Ranking are unparalleled. However, during this analysis, we thoroughly enjoyed Ubersuggest’s modern and slightly rustic interface. It looks stunning and is incredibly easy to use.
The left-hand side is reserved for its tools, while the middle of the screen is taken up by a heap of SEO-related info. Everything is snappy and fast, with Ubersuggest working smoothly across all devices. Better yet, there’s a Chrome Extension for some quick analyses.
It’ll analyze the sites you visit and display info related to domain authority, backlinks, traffic, and organic analytics. Its mobile implementation is average, and so is Semrush’s given its complexity. Speaking of Semrush, its interface is state-of-the-art.
We love it for its graphical nature that Ubersuggest lacks. Honestly, Semrush looks better in our eyes. It’s so feature-packed, yet so simple to grasp. In some instances, Ubersuggest is easier to handle but that’s because it doesn’t offer as much information as its rival.
Semrush, despite being so advanced, is intuitive enough, and might we add, faster than Ubersuggest. Its comprehensive analyses and website crawl take less time to complete, plus, you’ll enjoy the same great experience across all devices.
This category panned out well for both services. In the end, we decided to give it to Semrush as an SEO tool with a slightly better exercise. Don’t be mistaken! Ubersuggest follows in VERY closely and is one of the best-looking SEO tools we’ve used in 2024.
Semrush vs Ubersuggest Price (Ubersuggest Wins)
Pricing is usually an important factor when choosing an SEO tool. Sure, we can use free SEO software but then, we’d get limited features and not much to play around with. If you want a full package, you’ll be interested in how much these two cost. Well, your answer is below.
Semrush
Semrush isn’t cheap but it’s still more affordable than Ahrefs. However, if you don’t have at least $117.33 a month to spend on it, you’ll be disappointed. Its annual Pro plan with a 17% discount will cost that much. This package is solid, but not the best.
The Guru plan is our best-value option, with up to 30,000 results per report and 1,500 trackable keywords. The Business plan is for more ambitious people but it’s the best Semrus has to offer. If you examine its plans closely, you’ll see that Semrush isn’t the most generous.
For example, the Pro plan doesn’t include content marketing tools – a real shame! The Guru plan does, with 5 plagiarism checks monthly and 800 SEO templates. Also, the Pro plan lacks historical data but the Guru plan offers historical data since 2012.
Interestingly, the Guru plan crawls JS websites, while the Pro can’t do that. Semrush’s Pro plan could use some improvements but if you’re not overly demanding, we’re sure this plan will do just fine. Its monthly plans are 17% more expensive.
Therefore, we think it’s best to pay annually and save as much money as you can. If you find it expensive, you can look at these Semrush competitors instead or try Ubersuggest. Alternatively, take advantage of its 14-day free trial below.
Ubersuggest
Ubersuggest has some great-value plans to pick from. We like its Lifetime plans that raise the value bar to the next level. You have three plans and they’re incredibly cheap, especially the Individual plan at just $290 for a lifetime subscription.
It allows you to add only one domain, with 150 daily searches, 125 keywords to track, and 1,000 page scans per domain. The Business plan is for up to 7 websites and allows for 2 users, raising the daily searches to 300 and page scans per domain to 5,000.
Finally, the Enterprise plan at $990 is for up to 15 websites and 5 users, with 900 daily searches. If you don’t want to pay upfront, you can opt for monthly deals that, in all honesty, aren’t cheap. At least they’re more affordable than Semrush.
Users can purchase add-ons for $5 a month. They’ll allow for more daily searches, additional domains, and additional users. One more thing. Semrush’s plans are for individuals and each additional user will cost from $45 to $100 a month.
Ubersuggest will charge you $5 for a new user and it offers ready-made plans for up to 5 users. The platform offers a 7-day trial, so you aren’t charged beforehand. Lastly, its Lifetime plans are non-refundable, so ensure you test the service thoroughly before buying it.
Which One Is a Better Free SEO Tool? (Semrush Wins)
As a free SEO tool, we think Semrush does a better job. Ubersuggest has this free keyword research tool that you can use without registration. You can also use a few more tools but you’ll need to register and start a free trial.
Semrush allows access to almost all of its features if you register for free. However, you’ll be limited to 10 searches per day, and for all of them, you will get a decent amount of information. We prefer Semrush, as its free version is more akin to the premium one.
The experience doesn’t suffer if we exclude mandatory limits. In Ubersuggest, many tools are locked behind a paywall, requiring a free trial, and by extension, your subscription. That said, Semrush is at a slight advantage.
Customer Support of Semrush and Ubersuggest (Draw)
Both services excel in customer support – like SE Ranking which we reviewed recently. Semrush and Ubersuggest come with live chat and email support that works well. In both cases, you can submit a request and wait for an answer.
If you’re in a hurry, you can initiate the chat session and get help right away. We noticed both are responsive and helpful. Semrush has a phone number, offering a slight advantage over its rival. Sadly, waiting times can be long, so it’s not always worth going for.
Other support methods include various FAQs, guides, and tutorials to help you navigate these tools’ interfaces more swiftly. In our Semrush vs Ubersuggest comparison, we can’t complain about the level of support we received.
The Final Verdict: Semrush Wins Against Ubersuggest
In the end, Semrush takes home the win and beats its rival Ubersuggest. While Semrush won every round, it doesn’t mean Ubersuggest is a bad tool. Honestly, we enjoyed it more than we thought we would. It’s enjoyable and accurate for some serious SEO strategies.
However, Semrush is simply more robust, feature-rich, and powerful. It’s in another league when discussing keyword research, site/backlink auditing, and other digital marketing features. It’s more expensive but its free SEO tools are also more capable.
So, which tool should you buy? If you want nothing but the best, Semrush is an obvious choice. Ubersuggest is a good budget option with plenty of things to like but at the end of the day, so is SE Ranking, which is a superior choice compared to Ubersuggest.
